You don’t really need to travel too far back in history to identify a period when it was very difficult to obtain quality clothing to use about the golf course. Nowadays however it could be easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer choice and variety of golf clothing for sale in the market, particularly from the majority of the leading fashion brands. Amazing how things can alter just in the course of a few years.

It wasn’t until golf started receiving widespread media coverage that it became the success which it now is. The introduction to the sport and to the public of young and interesting golf professionals, including Seve Ballesteros, managed to make it more appealing to those who had previously considered golf as being a game for only the gifted few.

This initial surge in interest created a snowball effect, the end result being that golf has become one of the largest participatory sports across the world and has a viewing audience pretty much second to none. Not surprising therefore that sports manufacturers have been keen to seize a slice of the action.Golf clothing a few years back needed to be sourced from the local golf retailer.

Style wasn’t really on the agenda: practicality and hard wearing was the necessity and if that meant wearing ill-fitting and mismatched items then that was it. Not surprising golfers, most notably golf clothing, became a bit of a joke amongst non players. With that said we can all probably think of a few golf courses today where lots of of the members are still residing in the 60′s based on some of the clothing that they still insist upon turning out in!

There is absolutely no escaping the reality that golf and golf clothing has become very big business.
